Deaf Play, Cat's Cradle, Arrested Development Szn 4 - Fri, Oct 4, 2019 at 5:46 PM

Welcome back everybody to the Wednesday thread - yes, I'm aware it's Friday... but I have good reason (which I'll explain why later). Also, I'm aware I'm back at Lionsgate, but my LG email is still not working because, as helpdesk told me, "we are busy getting it delivered"... more like busy being a bunch of lame-Os!!! AMIRIGHT?? Hahaha... haha... aahh boy I'm fucking hilarious.

Some things I've been thinking about, some bullsh*t, and other good tidbits:

1. The Eurasian Koala is a subspecies of - jk, we're going to be talking about deaf actors doing Broadway plays. I just got back from a very interesting British play in the Arts District of Downtown LA this past Thursday night. Here is a full first look by Playbill: http://www.playbill.com/article/first-look-at-deaf-west-theatres-the-solid-life-of-sugar-water -- Written by Jack Thorne. His TV credits include Skins, Shameless, and as an upcoming HBO show coming up. What it's about: Two deaf people fall in love and go through the troubles of a relationship, marriage, having a child, and postpartum. The actors were great, the set building and design was great... but I didn't really like the story. It had 3 stories going on at once (kind of like Dunkirk): a morning s*x plot-line, their relationship from first meet to trying for a baby, and from morning sickness to the death of their child. I didn't like the story because, although I understand the juxtaposition the writer was aiming for, like for example - I didn't like how a guy org*sming scene and a dead baby being pushed out scene was going back and forth at the 3rd Act climax. It felt stupid; certain dramatic scenes juxtaposed with the overt sexual comedy scenes really cheapened the narrative and felt all over the place. At least deaf people played in it.

2. Kurt Vonnegut made the book Cat's Cradle. I've been dying to read it. Apparently Kurt worked as a copyeditor, a car salesman, went to war, a publicist for GE, and a magazine article writer. It was while working with scientists at GE that he came up with Cat's Cradle. Summary pitch from Amazon books: Cat’s Cradle is Kurt Vonnegut’s satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet’s ultimate fate, it features a midget as the protagonist, a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer, and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny. A book that left an indelible mark on an entire generation of readers, Cat’s Cradle is one of the twentieth century’s most important works—and Vonnegut at his very best.

3. Arrested Development Season 4 Remix: Fateful Consequences. Is fucking awesome. The way they get through story in the re-cut is fucking cool. It's just flipping through jokes one second after the other. That's called editing.

👉 My current life happenings: the reason I didnt send this Wednesday was because I was in a car crash Wednesday night. I left with some shoulder pain and a totaled car, everyone is safe, and it couldve been worse.
